Werner Hink is the concert master of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also the leader of the Vienna String Quartet and the New Vienna Octet. He was born in Vienna in 1943 and studied the violin at the Municipal Conservatory of Vienna, then at the Vienna Academy of Music where he graduated first on the list in 1962. He was first hired by the Vienna Philharmonic in 1964 to play in the first violin section. In 1968 he was installed as principal violinist and in 1974, he was made concert master. When he joined the orchestra in 1964, with other members of the orchestra, he formed the Vienna String Quartet.
