Notes and Editorial Reviews

Thomas Jensen's (1898-1963) name is inextricably linked with the founding and development of the Aarhus Civic Orchestra, today known as the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra was founded on January 14, 1935, largely because Thomas Jensen, who had been born and bred in Copenhagen, had moved to Aarhus hoping that a University would be built there. The orchestra grew from a group of 26 musicians to a full symphony orchestra under Jensen's unique guidance. The recordings on this CD bear witness to the fine artistic quality and animation which characterized the performances of Jensen, with his orchestra. The recordings were made in "The People's House" (now Aarhus Congress Centre) and the reproduction is also still remarkably clear. The Read more repertoire includes shorter works which at the time the orchestra frequently played at their mid-day and popular concerts. Read less
