Notes and Editorial Reviews

This set takes us on a journey through the development of classical music written for the violin, illustrated by some of the best-known and most popular works for the instrument. It begins in the Baroque era, with several favourite works by Vivaldi and J. S. Bach, and then progresses via Mozart and Beethoven to the Romantic era of Bruch, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Brahms, whose violin concertos are among the most popular in the entire violin repertoire. There are also pieces by those wizards of the violin Paganini, Sarasate and Kreisler, and we also hear a number of spectacular encores like Bazzini’s ‘Ronde des lutins’, Monti’s ‘Czárdás’ and Dinicu’s ‘Hora staccato’. The performers include some of the world’s greatest violinists such as Read more Yehudi Menuhin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Kyung-Wha Chung, David Oistrakh, Michael Rabin, Maxim Vengerov and many others.
