Let's look at some of the unfamiliar composers whose music is presented on this disc of music from this continuing series. Alexander Siloti was a pupil of Franz Liszt in Weimar for three years. Siloti had originally studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Rubinstein and Tchaikovsky. He was an elder cousin of Rachmaninoff, lived in the United States after the First World War and was a teacher at Juilliard for many years. Issai Dobrowen (1891-1953) initially studied in Moscow and then in Vienna with Leopold Godowsky. He soon dedicated himself to the study of conducting and worked in such places as Berlin, Dresden, Sofia and San Francisco. Ignace Strasfogel was born in 1909 and was a pupil of Franz Schreker. Strasfogel was a pianist who Read more accompanied such leading artists as Szigeti, Huberman, Piatigorsky and Lehmann. Eduard Erdmann (1896-1958) was a distinguished German pianist.
