Notes and Editorial Reviews

Mendelssohn’s highly potent brand of magic here in rhythmically robust live recordings of eight numbers from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a formidable team of soloists for the spooky Walpurgisnacht.

A Winner March 20, 2019 By Roger O. (Port Melbourne, Vic) See All My Reviews "The First Walpurgis Night is one of Mendelssohn's best and least known choral works. This performance was recorded at concerts in 1992. It's a winner, far and away the finest I have heard. Harnoncourt was a great Mendelssohn conductor and the singing is outstanding. Sadly no notes or text with this reissue but don't miss it. The work lasts over 36 minutes, not 26 as printed above." Report Abuse
