Dvo?ák’s Symphony No. 6 pays tribute both to his mentor Brahms and to the rich folk music of his Bohemian homeland. The most popular of all Dvo?ák’s works, Symphony No. 9 ‘From the New World’, makes an immediate appeal by virtue of a seemingly inexhaustible flow of melody and sparkling orchestration. ‘New orchestra, New World, and a terrific reading of a firm favourite’ (Gramophone on Dvo?ák’s Symphony No. 9)

Sound format: PCM Stereo / DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

"We know, from her recordings of the Brahms Symphonies, for Naxos, that Alsop is totally at home in this
Read more romantic repertoire and this performance simply confirms her position as an interpreter of music of this period. This performance is shattering in its power and urgency and Alsop brings a new view to this, supposedly, well known work. All in all this is an essential addition to any collection and it sits very well beside both the Berlin Philharmonic with Kubelik and the LSO with Kertesz. A real must have!"

Hi-Rez Dvorak May 22, 2016 By owen  ryan (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "Marin Alsop's performances of two of Dvorak's finest two symphonies in a high resolution format is a gift to the music lover and audiophile. The performance of the Sixth can bear comparison with the Decca recording by Istvan Kertsesz. The Ninth, while acceptable, is not of the same stature (there are better renditions available). The 24 bit/96khz audio on this disc is excellent. You simply have to hear these for yourself to appreciate how excellent both the performance of the Sixth is as well as the audio on both symphonies."  Congrats to the real BSO December 13, 2012 By S. Livingston (Peabody, MA) See All My Reviews "This recording has great sound and the interpretations are excellent. I had a recording of the London Symphony with Colin Davis of 6, and it was as though Dvorak was a man of no emotions or it was the most disinteresting symphony ever written. In any event, Alsop really gets the measure of this symphony and the sound on PCM stereo has an excellent sountstage, lots of depth and width, and the orchestra as a whole and individually is some of the best sound from Naxos I have heard. The same can be said for symphony 9, of which I have several other excellent recordings. This one is right up there with the best. May you have a Merry Christmas as you listen to this." Report Abuse
