Notes and Editorial Reviews

Hiromi Okada, a London-based pianist, has been giving a series of piano recitals called "The Microcosmos of Hiromi Okada" at Kioi Hall, Tokyo - twice yearly for five years. Some of the encore pieces played at those recitals are included in this recording. During intermissions at Okada's Kioi Hall recitals, members of the audience can be heard trying to predict that evening's encores; their guesses are often wide of the mark, however, because his repertoire is extremely wide. Replying to questions from his admirers, Okada once said: "My encore pieces are selected in harmony with the concept of each recital, so as not to impair its overall atmosphere." What makes this CD different from other albums of short pieces is the extremely wide range Read more of the selected composers. Another characteristic of the album is the inclusion of a number of instructive works by leading composers. Read less
