Hiromi Okada, a London-based pianist, has been giving a series of piano recitals called "The Microcosmos of Hiromi Okada" at Kioi Hall, Tokyo - twice yearly for five years. Some of the encore pieces played at those recitals are included in this recording. During intermissions at Okada's Kioi Hall recitals, members of the audience can be heard trying to predict that evening's encores; their guesses are often wide of the mark, however, because his repertoire is extremely wide. Replying to questions from his admirers, Okada once said: "My encore pieces are selected in harmony with the concept of each recital, so as not to impair its overall atmosphere."
