Notes and Editorial Reviews

Bronislaw Huberman was born in Poland in 1882. At seven he performed the Spohr Second Violin Concerto. His father took him to Berlin in 1892, however Joachim refused to teach child prodigies. He then went to study in Frankfurt and Paris. In 1895 in Vienna, Adelina Patti engaged him for her farewell concert where he played the Mendelssohn. When he was thirteen, he played the Brahms Violin Concerto for the composer. After the Nazis took over in Germany, he transferred his activities to the U.S. Most of his recordings were done in Europe in the 30s. He undertook to assemble Jewish musicians in Palestine and organized the Palestine Symphony Orchestra (today the Israel Philharmonic) in association with the conductor William Steinberg. The first Read more concert took place in 1936 conducted by Toscanini. In 1937, he suffered injuries to his arms and hands in an airplane crash, but did recover. He died in Israel in 1947. Read less
