Vaqueiras and Gaucelm Faidit not found in the repertoire but adapted from other sources; two of the
cantigas de amigo
of Martim Codax, usually recorded as a set; several instrumental renditions; two unfamiliar songs by Adam de la Halle, and a couple of Sephardic songs. Dominique Vellard has focused his career on a wide range of music of the Middle Ages. Joined by two singers and two players, he has turned out a program that is endlessly fascinating because of its rarity. The sound was captured in a marvelous church in Vergy, France, surrounding the music with a glow that furnishes a palpable presence to the performers. The singing and playing are on the highest level. This is recommended to collectors who already have the more familiar troubadour songs and want to expand their collections.
