Holten's staging leans on Wagner's struggle to be the kind of novelistic artist he wanted to be while hindered by the confines of German court theatre… Venus [is] winningly played by Resmark as a kind of saucy Rosa Klebb spy on her author's life and emotions. Again as in the Ring Holten shows well in directing intense emotions… We never just sit in the imaginary best seat in the stalls but see the action from every possible voyeuristic angle.

no Irene TheorinAugust 1, 2014By thomas f. (Fishertown, PA)See All My Reviews"I bought this because it was supposed to have Irene Theorin in it. It does not. It is a euro trash staging of Tannhauser with ballet dancers in the 1st act. I can't say that I hated it,however it could be better. The staging did not really disturb me,however no Theorin in it did.Look at the picture of the dvd.She is not in it. Below that it lists her in it."Report Abuse
