An exceptionnal meeting November 4, 2012 By Michelle Blanckaert (Tourcoing, Nord) See All My Reviews "This is certainly the best sung Lied von der Erde in the history of recordings. Two wonderful voices ar their peek, so gorgious in tone, in expression and musicality. How beautiful are the sounds flowing from Merriman's mouth, how thrilling is the voice of Fritz Wunderlich, how they are complementary one from each other, like the two faces of the same gem. The direction of Schmidt-Isserstedt, as usual, gives a great deal of music, without "parti pris" of modernism or romanticism or what you want : it gives us the impression of being "the right conducting", at every moment. Only the technical quality of the recording (in comparison with our nowadays standards) is a bit so-so." Report Abuse
