Notes and Editorial Reviews

With Vaughan Williams and the Cardiff Festival Choir comes strength of a different kind. This derives partly from the performers, but largely from RVW who recognized the strength of the folk-tunes he collected and, having to find harmonies for them, did so in a way that suited their character. His own compositions (four of them) are of great beauty and assort well with the rest. The choir perform with spirit, the women singing with unfailing beauty of tone.
