...the two 1980 concerto performances she made, as director/pianist, with the London Sinfonietta. Of the two it’s the Haydn that is the more immediately appealing, not that the Beethoven is disappointing, with its lissom drive, rhythmic verve and incision in the outer movements and a penetrating stillness and beauty of tone in the slow movement with its superbly realised cadenza.

 Argerich conducts January 25, 2013 By Bevan Davies (Kennebunk, ME) See All My Reviews "This recording is, I believe, the only one of Beethoven's 2nd where Argerich is conducting from the piano. The performance is not that much different from the one she gave on a DG recording in 1985, with Sinopoli and the Philharmonia, except there are dynamic subtleties in the strings and recording differences on the DG disc. That said, this is worth having, not just for the Beethoven, but for the Haydn as well. Highly recommended." Report Abuse
