Notes and Editorial Reviews

Wilhelm Kempif's performances of these two celebrated concertos, one predominantly sunny despite its grave central movement and the other dramatic, won high praise on LP. Deservedly so, for they are poised and sensitive yet with passion where the music calls for it. The support that Leitner gives the pianist is just right, too, as indeed it is in some other recordings where they joined forces, such as the Beethoven piano concertos. Though at first the playing of both soloist and orchestra can seem restrained beside that of some other artists, it is satisfying and very musicianly.

These
Read more famous recordings, made in the early Sixties, show Kempff at his best: elegant and restrained, but always very eloquent.

As expected, beautiful February 21, 2014 By Paul M C. (Los Osos, CA) See All My Reviews "Heard this on the radio, descending a mountain in the car. Not sure which concerto, thought it was No. 8, but the delicacy of the pianist and the recording just made everything smooth and handsome. Did not realize it was recorded in the 80's, but so what?, beautiful music lasts forever. There are 3 concertos on this, all good. I'm no music expert so I cannot say more than if you like Mozart and piano and want more than Elvira Madigan, Jupiter, etc. then check this out." Report Abuse
