There is almost no point in writing a review of a recording by the master cellist and humanitarian, Pablo Casals. He represents the birth of the cello soloist and his artistry is quite simply unparalleled. This recording brings together some of the best of his performances. Casals, unlike many modern interpreters, was always careful to personalize his performances without ever intruding upon the music or the concepts of the composer. Casals was not the most technical cellist ever, but he is proof that flawless technique does not make for musicianship. And Casals is no slouch, either!
