Domingo's great hits October 18, 2013 By William Duncan (Martin, TN) See All My Reviews "In general, I was very pleased with the three disc set. I had never heard Ernanni before and found much of the music, specially some of the soprano arias beautiful. However the story falls short of true drama; the hero is too willing to die for something or somebody -- and finally does. This opera should have been written as a comedy. If anyone believes that opera singers just stand and scream at each other, they should listen and see Otello and Il Trovatore. Domingo is outstanding in all aspects as Otello. Of course he is one of the major figures in music this generation and any other one, Fiorenza as Azucena gives one of the most moving performances I have ever witnessed when she sings STRIDA la VAMPA. Verdi at one time considered changing the title Il Trovatore to Azucena, and I think he should have; the whole opera revolves about her. Recommend this tremendous collection at this fabulous price to anyone." Report Abuse
