Notes and Editorial Reviews

This Nonesuch disc of the "Concord Sonata," played so fluently by Gilbert Kalish, has never been equaled as an introduction to the cosmic world of Charles Ives. It's as formidable a piece of music as Beethoven's "Hammerklavier," although it ultimately might be reassuring--the tender, hushed quality of "The Alcotts"--in a way that the Beethoven will never be.
