Great PerformanceTranscends Limited Recorded Sound August 22, 2012 By G. Dollinger (Bellflower, CA) See All My Reviews "George Szell made only a few Bruckner recordings so this "live" performance of the Seventh Symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic is a valuable document. True, the quality of the sound is not great, but it is far from abysmal as some reviewers have claimed. Supposedly, the members of the Vienna Phil. had collective heartburn with Szell for many years due to his exacting standards, but all seems to have been forgiven by the time this late sixties concert took place. This is a beautiful performance, a few technical blemishes aside, and we are lucky to have it. If you love Bruckner, admire Szell and are willing to overlook the limitations of the mono sound (the source for the recording was a radio broadcast tape),you should find this disc very rewarding."
