An impressive voice April 25, 2017 By John S. (Castlemaine, VIC) See All My Reviews "Mario Filipeschi was unquestionably a major voice. He was most active in the 1950's and was often the partner of Maria Callas. He was her Pollione on her first NORMA for EMI. Tonally his voice recalls Del Monaco but with an easy top extension that most tenors might die for. He did have his detractors, justifiably in my view. His emission was often coarse, he sang with little musical use of portmento, and his impressive top notes were always attacked forte. He was however capable of spinning out a winning pianissimo as he demonstrates here. There are good quality live recordings from the standard repertoire. If Fillippeschi is new to you you will have discovered an impressive voice indeed." Report Abuse
