The Gypsy in LisztFebruary 28, 2017By owen ryan (lakewood, CA)See All My Reviews"The six rhapsodies were originally written for piano and later scored for orchestra. Penguin Guide declared these ''the finest set of orchestral Hungarian Rhapsodies.'' These lively works shine like the new moon under the baton of Dorati and the playing of the LSO. As George Bernard Shaw remarked after hearing a rhapsody in concert: 'it'sparkled, tinkled, warbled, soared, swooped, and raced along so that it was impossible to resist the itch to get up and dance.' These vintage 1960 and 1963 performances were recorded by Mercury's Chief Engineer Robert Eberenz under the direction and supervision of Wilma Cozart and C. robert Fine. Wilma Cozart-Fine remastered them for CD."Report Abuse
