Pyotr Dmitriev was born in Moscow on January 15, 1974 into a family of professional musicians. At the age of seven he entered the Central Musical School at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. At the age of eight, he made his debut with orchestra playing the Bach Concerto in F major and soon after he played the Haydn Concerto in D and the Beethoven C major. In 1992, he entered the Moscow Conservatory where he became a student of Lev Naumov. While still a student he won the first prize and the gold medal at the 6th International Music Competition of Japan held in Tokyo in 1995. In 1998, he graduated from the Conservatory.
