Notes and Editorial Reviews

Almost five decades have passed since Georg Hann's death in 1950; during all these years recordings of his wonderful voice were always available on LP, but in the CD era, it has been different. Now Preiser hopes to correct the situation with some of his best work here on one CD. The fact that the largest part of his best known recordings represent the singer in celebrated buffo-roles might create the impression, especially among a younger generation which never heard him on stage, that his artistic interests were somewhat restricted to roles such as Baculus, van Bett and Kezal. By overlooking Hann's vast repertory of roles one soon realizes how incorrect is this generalization. In Hann's case, it is almost impossible to clearly define his Read more voice. The fact that he sang both baritone and bass roles and that he was held in the highest regard both on the opera stage and the concert platform shows his artistic rank in the hearts of the German people.
