Daniel Nelson was born on May 1, 1965 in Bethesda, Maryland. His family moved to Sweden in 1970. His first studies in composition were in Sweden, prior to returning to the U.S. to study at the Peabody Conservatory. He then studied with Ralph Shapey at the University of Chicago. Since 1992, he has been working in Sweden as a composer. Consider a career path that leads from the symphony orchestra and jazz scholarship via heavy metal virtuoso to composer and principal soloist of a work for electric cello, chamber orchestra and rhythm section. This remarkable story belongs to the Swedish genius of the double bass and cello, Svante Henryson. Born in Stockholm and raised in Northern Sweden, he claims Elton John among his earliest influences. Read more Henryson has been the principal bass of the Oslo Philharmonic for many years. His Songs from the Milky Way were composed in 1998 and revised in 2000, especially for this group. Fredrik Hogberg was born near Malmo, Sweden in 1971 and studied with Jan Sandstrom. He served as Sandstrom's assistant and has taught composition. He has been a full time composer since 1996.
