Eduard and Richard Franck were both renowned pianists and were highly thought of as composers during their lifetimes, but they were both forgotten after their deaths. They were re-discovered, when people again became interested in 19th and early 20th century music, and in composers who were influenced by the "great masters" of that time. Eduard Franck was the son of a banker. His eldest brother Hermann was a friend of Goethe, Heine and Wagner. For Wagner, he was a stimulating conversationalist and wrote many fine reviews of his operas. Eduard's brother Albert owned a bookshop in Paris and was a friend of Chopin, Halle and Stephen Heller. Eduard Franck was one of the very few private students of Felix Mendelssohn. Richard was the only son of Read more Eduard and studied with Carl Reinecke and Wilhelm Rust.
