Nancy Ruffer was born in Detroit, Michigan. Upon graduating from The University of Michigan in 1976, she was awarded a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship to study at The Royal Academy of Music in London, and she has remained in London working as a free-lance flautist specializing in contemporary music and performing with various ensembles. In addition, she has performed both as soloist and chamber player for the BBC. Ms. Ruffer is active in working with and commissioning composers, and has had numerous pieces written for her. In addition to her duo with Helen Crayford, she performs regularly with harpist Hugh Webb. Following studies at Cambridge, the Royal College of Music, and with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, Helen Crayford embarked on a versatile Read more career as both trumpeter and pianist in chamber orchestras and ensembles. During this time, she was also in demand as a coach with the major European opera companies, including the Royal Opera House, ENO and Glyndebourne. In 1986, she launched a one-woman show Rags to Riches, which explores the history of Ragtime and Jazz.
