Piano virtuoso Alfred Brendel is mostly known for his recordings of Beethoven piano works, however, his stellar ability to interpret Viennese Classics is consistent for other classical composers. On this album, Brendel communicates Mozart's delicate piano sonata style with irreproachable precision and generous consideration for the composer's attention to detail. Featured on the album is one of Mozart's most famous works, Piano Sonata in A major, K331. The well-known sonata begins with an intriguing opening theme and variations that builds the piece for the furious finale. Included on the album is Piano Sonata in B flat major, K570, a work that reflects some of the same issues addressed in Mozart's Divertimento for String Trio, K563. Also featured is the composer's Piano Sonata in C major, K330, a companion to K331 and a conventional example of Mozart's simplicity at its finest. Throughout the album, Brendel concentrates tirelessly on rhythm and accuracy, which may leave some romantics with something to be desired, however, his devotion to exactness makes this album a perfect model for students of Mozart's works. |
