Notes and Editorial Reviews

This CD derives from a live concert that featured Furtwangler as the guest conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic on June 10, 1949 at the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. This concert had been issued on two LPs for the German Furtwangler Society. Several pirate recordings over the years have been based on this issue. The three preludes from Palestrina deserve special mention. Furtwangler never recorded them commercially so that this version remains his only recording of these pieces.
