Orchestra 2001 is a Philadelphia-based new music group best known for its associations with some of the areas's renowned academics, among them, Penn's George Crumb and Swarthmore's Gerald Levinson. Levinson's 'Chant des Rochers' is a bluff and craggy salute to Olivier Messiaen, written in commemoration of that composer's 70th birthday. Like several of Messiaen's works, it takes its inspiration from nature, in this case the Dauphine of the high alps. Steven Stucky's Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe employs delicate timbral play in three movements separated by cadenzas, while David Finko1s 'From m Septet' is based on the alternation of three contrasting thematic
