Outstanding Rachmaninov Piano Concertos January 11, 2016 By owen ryan (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "Penguin Guide has declared that these performances ''have achieved classic status.'' Gramophone states ''the sound and balance are superb. Ashkenazy's greatnest [is] in all these works. Previn works hand in glove with his soloist. This is the product of the greatest musical sympathy, of a mutual skill and affection.'' If you would like all four of Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos it would be hard to better this set: skillfully played by Askenazy and the LSO led by Previn and recorded in that wonderful Decca analogue sound by engineers Kenneth Wilkinson and James Lock--all for a mere $20-."
