Although he only enjoyed a short career, he died at the age of forty-five, the name Leo Schutzendorf still is very much alive in the music world today. In the world premiere of Wozzeck on December 14, 1925, he sang the title role. Albert Einstein wrote about him in the Berliner Tagblatt: "He was a singer who was obsessed by the stage. At his best when he was the center of attention, one could still not overlook him even if he was singing a small role in a remote part of the stage.
