Piano PerfectionAugust 2, 2015By R. Fazakerly (Houston, TX)See All My Reviews"Van Cliburn's reading of the Chopin E Minor Concerto is extraordinarily beautiful. The second movement is transcendent. Every single note is perfectly placed with a gorgeous tonal quality. The phrasing is flexible and spontaneously rendered. The rhythmic flexibility and playfulness of the final movement is surely just what Chopin had in mind. And the lush sound of the Philadelphia Orchestra under Ormandy at that time was a very good match for this particular concerto. This is one of my favorites of the many Cliburn recordings I have purchased."Report Abuse
