Giacomo Puccini’s immortal opera in a high budget feature-film version directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Dornhelm, stars opera's 'Golden Couple', Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrebko as the protagonists, Rodolfo and Mimi. The chemistry between them is electric, unrivaled in the theatre today.Read more Russian soprano Anna Netrebko is not only beautiful but has a marvelous voice and technique; on the other hand Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon, has a wonderful voice and an incredible charisma.
The excellent bonus features include fascinating interviews with all the key performers and the director, who confirms that he not only wanted to remain steadfastly faithful to Puccini's design but also document two of the leading singers of the modern age rather than embarking on some kind of trendy contemporary re-creation.

Giacomo Puccinis everlasting masterpiece.April 17, 2014By Luke Bryant (Oakleigh South, Victoria)See All My Reviews"This creation of Giacomo Puccinis everlasting masterpiece is a high quality film set production, directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Dornhelm. The movie stars opera's 'Golden Couple', Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrebko as the central characters, Rodolfo and Mimi, their interaction is truly alive and very well acted, regardless of the high quality singing by both artists. This magnificent Russian soprano in the lead role is beautiful and is perfectly matched by a Mexican tenor with magnetic charisma. Included, is the very worthwhile bonus interviews with several performers. I agree with CLASSIC FM MAGAZINE, it is "an extraordinary theatrical opera film". Buy it, see it, then watch it again. 5 Stars. Luke Bryant."Report Abuse
