AND HERE'S ANOTHER ONE! May 17, 2015 By Zita Carno (Tampa, FL) See All My Reviews "I mentioned earlier that I've been acquiring some CDs featuring music which I enjoyed performing as a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and one such piece is the Petite Symphonie Concertante. I well remember one week when Sir Neville Marriner (what a fine conductor he is!)guested with our orchestra, and we played this work---we had Carol Baum on harp (the wife of our then principal trombonist) and me on piano, I forget who the harpsichordist was, but we had a splendid time performing this work, and there's one section where I really took off a la Dizzy Gillespie! I have also enjoyed a number of his solo piano works---the Eight Preludes and the Fantasia on various Spanish rhythms, I believe that was what it was---and I have played a couple of the Ballades for various instruments and piano. I wish more of his ensemble and orchestral works, besides the ones on this album, were available; those rhythms in particular just grab me! Thank you." Report Abuse
