Notes and Editorial Reviews

Stokowski’s first releases take us back to the exciting days when his concerts would range from Strauss’s then modern "Dance of the Seven Veils" to the maestro’s own arrangement of Stephen Foster’s "Oh! Susanna". Outstanding orchestras include the Philadelphia Orchestra, NBC Symphony Orchestra and New York City Symphony Orchestra.

The recordings on this disc were made in 1927 and 1944. On these transfers from previously unreleased 78rpm records, Cala has sought to capture the essence and energy of the performances while lessening the effects of the surface noise inherent in the earlier technology.
