Notes and Editorial Reviews

For over forty years Hilde Konetzni was associated with the Vienna State Opera, where she had given her debut as Elisabeth in Tannhauser on April 5th 1935. From that evening on she not only became one of the most popular members of the ensemble but also one of the most irreplaceable ones. In 1936, she appeared for the first time at the Salzburg Festival as the Marschallin. She continued to appear there until 1961. A milestone in her career occurred in 1950 when she sang a complete "Ring" cycle at La Scala in Milan under Furtwangler. Towards the end of her days she dedicated herself to teaching at the "opera studio" of the Vienna State Opera.
