Notes and Editorial Reviews

...[A]n ideal spirit-raiser. The Beautiful Galatea balances handsome playing with real swagger, and Poet and Peasant is as intense and beautifully shaped as Toscanini's. There are nine overtures in all, each parading similar virtues — brilliance, energy, a consistent sense of rhythm and line, felicitous phrasing and a somewhat formal charm.

-- Robert Cowan, Gramophone [12/2004]

Once again a magnificent recording June 22, 2014 By jerome r. See All My Reviews "This recording made its debut about 50 years ago in a LP format. Even then this record was an absolute knockout. Performance and sound were stunning to say the least. Every nuance was clear and precise. I still have the original LP and it stands up to the CD with flying colors. If you want the top performances in this crowded field, you cannot go wrong with Paray and the Detroit Symphony." Report Abuse
