Notes and Editorial Reviews
Several settings of the canticles in this recording have connections with Worcester Cathedral. The name of Sir Ivor Atkins is inextricably linked with Worcester, Elgar and the Three Choirs Festival, while that of one of his most distinguished predecessors, Thomas Tomkins, is remembered for a considerable output of sacred and secular music written in the Tudor period. Herbert Howells wrote canticle settings for many of the great cathedrals and collegiate chapels, including Worcester; Donald Hunt was Master of the Choristers from 1974 until 1996 and Roger Hemingway was a lay clerk in the Cathedral choir.
