Notes and Editorial Reviews

A good number of Paderewski's small piano pieces have established themselves permanently in the piano repertoire. This is certainly true of the two cycles Op. 10 and Op. 14, of which Chant d'amour (Op. 10 No. 2) and the Menuet in G major (Op. 14, No. 2) have enjoyed the greatest popularity from the very beginning. These two pieces are typical of the 19th century piano miniatures with programmatic titles that were composed in great numbers at the time. It is important to point out that the value of these works does not merely stem from the fact that they were composed by a great pianist. The origins of the two cycles are linked with the first period of the life of the future virtuoso - that is, the years of studies in Berlin and Vienna when Read more Paderewski was convinced that composing was his main talent and calling, while ascribing only secondary importance to piano playing.
