Notes and Editorial Reviews

This CD is unusual in that the soloist, Oldrich Vlcek, uses a different instrument for each concerto: for La Primavera a 1959 violin by Jiri Povolny, for L'Estate a 1920 one by Otakar Spidlen, for L'Autunno one by Matyas Heinecke (1873-1956) and a Jan Oldrich Eberle (1699-1768) violin for L'Inverno. The Virtuosi di Praga is an outgrowth of the famous Prague Chamber Orchestra. Guest artists who have appeared with the group are Placido Domingo, Rostropovich, Igor Oistrakh, Pavel Kogan, Josef Suk and Helmuth Rilling. The orchestra has made more than 100 CDs.
