Notes and Editorial Reviews

Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream has two charming soloists in Edith Mathis and Ursula Boese; Rafael Kubelik conducts the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a fresh, delightful performance with lots of good humour, and he also directs the same orchestra in vigorous, well-shaped accounts of two Weber overtures, Oberon and Der Freischütz, to complete a long and excellent record which has good sound despite its mid-1960s origins.
