Sony Music Masterworks releases the long-awaited follow-up to the GRAMMY Award-winning The Goat Rodeo Sessions. Following the album's May release, the group will set out on a coast-to-coast U.S. tour beginning in August, followed by a second set of performances in October.
Both sets of Goat Rodeo sessions combine the talents of the four solo artists, each a Grammy Award-winning talent in his own right, to create a singular sound that's part composed, part improvised, and uniquely American. The music is so complex to pull off that the group likens it to a goat rodeo — an aviation term for a situation in which 100 things need to go right to avoid disaster. Both the first album and the new recording also feature the voice andRead more artistry of singer-songwriter and fellow Grammy Award-winner Aoife O'Donovan, who rejoins the group as a guest on Not Our First Goat Rodeo.

REVIEW:
On their own, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, mandolinist Chris Thile, bassist Edgar Meyer, and fiddler Stuart Duncan have distinguished themselves as musical mavericks, known for their ability to straddle multiple genres with ease. Together, they bring all of their varied experiences to bear, crafting original songs that showcase their technical virtuosity and ear for melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic invention. Not Our First Goat Rodeo is a deeply engaging, often rapturous album that balances keen and studied musicality with an almost chaotic passion for group interplay.

nopeAugust 3, 2020By Karen Craig (Grand Junction, CO)See All My Reviews"This is the first compilation/collaboration type of CD of Yo Yo Ma's that I have disliked. There are few good tracks but in general it is very disorganized and discordant, to my taste anyway."Report Abuse
Sorry, wrong numbersJuly 25, 2020By Barbara H. (Santa Rosa, CA)See All My Reviews"I gave this CD my bet effort, listened to it several times, with a glass of wine and without. Couldn't "get" it. Mind you I love Yo Yo Ma and have many of his recordings, but this was beyond me. I gave the CD to some friends and they couldn't hack it either. I knoW all music was new once, but this one is at least 50 years ahead of its time. Thumbs down."Report Abuse
