Notes and Editorial Reviews

Josè Daniel Cirigliano, who is considered “one of the best contemporary clarinettists” (Roberto Zecchini, in “Musica”, May 2015, no. 84), now, after the complex, excellent album Opere Contemporanee per Clarinetto, offers us a new, stimulating excursus in the contemporary music for solo clarinet of the last few decades. Within this album we see various composers through the twentieth century challenging with the clarinet: from William Overton Smith, winner of the “Grand Prix de Rome” in 1957, to the young Roman Alessandra Ravera, through figures by the great personality such as Giacinto Scelsi, or masters who left their mark like Bruno Bettinelli, or specialists of the clarinet technique like Antonio Fraioli and Giovanni Mattaliano.  Passed Along July 24, 2019 By J. Pour (Claresholm, AB) See All My Reviews "I'm an avid collector of clarinet music who always asks, is it beautiful, interesting or exciting; is it well played with better than average reed technique throughout, is it clean, is it music that I would like to play. This recording, for a myriad of reasons, simply didn't pass muster. Cannot recommend this recording. Just not acceptable to me. No bias, however, as I do have another recording by Mr. Cirigliano, entitled 'Opere Contemporanee Per Clarinetto', which remains in my collection." Report Abuse
