Notes and Editorial Reviews
Note: A complete tracklist is currently under development. - ArkivMusic
Charles Gounod was one of the most prominent French composers of his time, admired by such figures as Bizet, Fauré, Massenet, Ravel and Tchaikovsky. Among the recordings in this 15-CD edition are star-studded complete recordings of three of his operas, with Faust additionally represented by highlights from its German version, Margarethe. The rarely-heard oratorio Mors et Vita stands as a mighty pillar of a collection that also includes the much-loved Messe solennelle de Sainte Cécile, the composer’s two symphonies and a fascinating treasury of arias, songs and instrumental music.
