In 1988 Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious opera houses, held the largest benefit concert ever seen in the Soviet Union. Eleven international opera stars came together on stage to perform a benefit concert for the victims of the deadly earthquake in Armenia that took over 25,000 lives. Opera enthusiasts traveled from all over Europe to support the concert and hear their idols perform.
