Back from the lost December 12, 2017 By S. Blaser (Pittsburg, CA) See All My Reviews "I grew up in the 1950s listening to Toscanini on radio,78 rpm discs and eventually early TV. Then Began to disappear. With the advent of new technology and the passage of time he was lost. I am grateful to see a great conducted returned. The current recordings are restored to a level that surpasses that which could be heard in the 50s-70s, plus no pops, how's or scratches. The performances match my memories which is quite a feat. They demonstrate why he is Considered one's of the great conductors of the 20th century. The orchestra's performances are all excellent. Together they provide a window into how Verdi was interpreted during the 4s to 60s.(Lots of Verdi). Highly recommend." Report Abuse
A Must-Have Set for Any Opera Lover September 5, 2017 By John Sakowich (Cathedral City, CA) See All My Reviews "For many years, these performances were the yardstick by which all others were measured. In the meantime, many newer recordings perhaps have bettered some of these in many respects. Never mind, these performances are essential listening, and are nicely collected in this one set, albeit no notes or librettos are included, just the track numbers and the Artist Listings. If you love Verdi, this is a set not to miss." Report Abuse
