Notes and Editorial Reviews

This reissue moves us into the 20th century for a veritable landmark recording. Arnold Schoenberg died in 1951 without completing his only full-length opera, Moses und Aron. Three years later, North German Radio mounted the work’s first performance in Hamburg. The conductor was Hans Rosbaud, an authoritative interpreter of contemporary works. This historic performance, initially preserved on a commercial recording issued in 1957, is released for the first time on CD.

REVIEW:

The cast is a special glory of this performance, and Rosbaud clearly has a firm grasp of the score. Helmut Krebs is clearly one of the best Arons on record.
