Notes and Editorial Reviews

Five hundred years after the events of the Reformation it appears clearer than ever before that the Reformation would hardly have been as successful as it was if it had not been for music. And today, more than ever, it is the music of the great musicians who were inspired by the Lutheran Reformation – like Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach or Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms that helps to keep the faith alive in the minds of the wider public. This collection of secular and sacred compositions offers a panoramic view spanning from the music from the days of Luther to his musical heritage up to the late Romantics.  Magnificent! March 15, 2017 By N.K. Bergin (Lake Luzerne, NY) See All My Reviews "Music of the Reformation presented here by masters of the genre. I bought the discs to further explore the particular music of that time. The first disc was beautifully and faithfully rendered. I would have preferred that the second disc be entirely comprised of related Renaissance titles. The modern day tracks added here that were composed as tributes to the Reformation seemed like add-ons to this set. Nevertheless, stellar performance by the Hilliard Ensemble, David Munrow, et al."
