Notes and Editorial Reviews

Deutsche Grammophon is proud to announce that Murray Perahia has signed to the yellow label. For his first album on the label, Perahia has recorded Bach’s French Suites. Perahia produced a series of award-winning recordings of Bach's keyboard works in the late 1990s and since then Bach has become his bench mark. This is his first new album in 5 years.

-----

As we expect from Perahia, everything sounds natural and inevitable. Ego doesn’t come into it: rather, he acts as a conduit between composer and audience with a purity that few can emulate...I’ve only had this recording for five days but I predict a long and happy future in its company.  The Gold Standard May 10, 2018 By A. Fast (Teaneck, NJ) See All My Reviews "This recording of the French Suites sets the bar. Perahia's playing is so beautiful and the interpretation is so true that everything he does sounds inevitable, like it couldn't be played any other way. He carries the listener along, telling a story with each movement, with a forward momentum that is compelling, with just the right amount of breathing room in between the phrases and sub-phrases. Buy this recording! And kudos to you, Mr. Perahia!" Report Abuse
Excellent Musicianship November 29, 2016 By M. Bishop (Clackamas, OR) See All My Reviews "On this album, Murray Perahia performs Bach’s French Suites to perfection. The graceful trills which characterize much of Bach’s piano works appear here, in elegant fashion. Perahia presents Bach in as straight forward a fashion as possible; the music as played by Perahia is inscrutable in its simple complexity. That’s just the way Bach played well comes across. The sound quality is excellent here; the ambient sounds of the varied notes of the piano come through clearly. My hat is off to the sound engineers at Deutsche Grammophon for doing such a good job of recording this musical presentation. All said, I give this album a 10/10 rating for the sound quality and Perahia’s excellent presentation of Bach at his best." Report Abuse
NOTHING BUT THE BEST FROM PERAHIA  November 12, 2016 By Bernard A J. (Kansas City, MO) See All My Reviews "Murray Perahia is probably the best pianist of my generation as no one else comes close. He has now turned 70 and is better than ever and on a new label - DGG. Every time he comes out with a new recording, you expect nothing but top drawer playing and especially interpretation. He knows how to make every work phrased just exactly as you feel it should sound. The French Suites only proves this and are outstanding as all of his work. These recordings are very much in the same fashion as the English Suites recorded for Sony. Even though you may not have that recording on two separate discs, buy them now after you click the link for buying the French Suites. If you only want this recording, it is the one for the French Suites PERIOD." Report Abuse
