Notes and Editorial Reviews

Often named the supreme pianist of his era, Sviatoslav Richter (1915-1997) was a poet of the keyboard and an enigmatic, sometimes eccentric figure. These 24 CDs span three centuries of music – repertoire for solo piano and piano duo, chamber music, song and concerto – and bring Richter together with other great artists of his time. As the New York Times wrote, his pianism “combined astonishing technical mastery with bold, wide-ranging musical imagination. His control over the colorings of piano tone was incomparable.” Often named the supreme pianist of his era, Sviatoslav Richter (1915-1997) was a poet of the keyboard and an enigmatic, sometimes eccentric figure.  Great performances by a great artist January 28, 2018 By Ira Friedman (New Hope, PA) See All My Reviews "This is a very fine collection of Richter's performances. I've only heard a few of the CD's, but the quality of the sound is very good, and he is a great music maker. The price I paid for this collection was one of my best bargains. If I knew another Richter fan, I would buy again as a gift." Report Abuse
Richter is the pinnacle of piano January 30, 2017 By Tamas Fenyvesi (BUdapest, Hungary) See All My Reviews "It would be simply immodest to comment on this fantastic collection , or to rate this celestial musician. Who wants more I suggest to read Bruno Monsaingeon: Richter ecrits et conversations; and Karl Aage Rasmussen: Svjatoslav Richter, pianist. Thank you for this album of records. Yours, Tamas Fenyvesi" Report Abuse
