A great under recordered voice December 11, 2015 By John S. (Castlemaine, Victoria) See All My Reviews "I must admit Phillis Curtin is a recent discovery for me; my failing but also Curtin is another great voice shamefully neglected by the major recording companies. Her voice is individual, bright and even with a forward sound. Her attention to words and clear diction give these selections a marvellous intensity of expression and dramatic awareness. There is a tough "Come Scoglio" and then a beautifully floated and expressed "Depuis Le Jour". A few of the arias, the Andrea Chenier, for example I found so connected to words and dramatic situation, ( rather than generic exposition of character) the experience was of hearing them anew. The disc ends with a marvellously exciting final scene from Salome. These tracks come from concert performances and rehearsals, so the sound is very good." Report Abuse
